The Ebonyi State government has issued a safety advisory to residents and property owners in communities affected by the ongoing 132-Kilovolt (KV) power transmission line project being executed by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), warning against activities within the designated Right-of-Way of the project.
The advisory, contained in a public service announcement signed by the Commissioner for Power and Energy, Dr. Peter Oge Ali, said the transmission line project, which runs from Mile 50 in Abakaliki to Amasiri, has reached an advanced stage of construction.
According to the commissioner, all transmission towers along the route have been erected, while conductor stringing is currently ongoing as part of efforts to complete the critical power infrastructure project.
He urged farmers, developers, property owners and other residents occupying or carrying out activities within the transmission corridor to immediately stay away from the route to safeguard lives and property and ensure the smooth completion of the project.
"The public is hereby informed that the Transmission Company of Nigeria is currently constructing a 132-KV Power Transmission Line from Mile 50, Abakaliki to Amasiri. The project has reached an advanced stage, with conductor stringing now ongoing and all transmission towers already erected along the route," the statement said.
The government identified the affected Local Government Areas as Ebonyi, Ezza North, Ezza South, Onicha and Afikpo, noting that communities within these areas should cooperate fully with officials handling the project.
The ministry further called on traditional rulers, town union presidents and village heads in the affected communities to mobilise residents and ensure compliance with the directive.
Ali described the transmission line project as a major investment in the state's power infrastructure, stressing that it would play a significant role in improving electricity supply and accelerating socio-economic development across Ebonyi State.
He reiterated the government's commitment to ensuring the successful completion of the project and appealed to residents to support the initiative by adhering strictly to safety regulations and staying clear of the transmission corridor.
The commissioner added that cooperation from stakeholders and host communities would be crucial to the timely completion of the project and the realization of its anticipated benefits for the people of the state.
