Former Senate President and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim.
A 2023 general elections Presidential hopeful and Former Senate President of the country, His Excellency, Sen, Chief Pius Anyim will on Sunday, November 7, 2021, receive the 2020 Zik prize for political leadership.
Anyim, a top presidential contender and Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, will receive the award in that category with the country’s Minister of State for Health, Senator Olurunmibe Mamora.
The event which is the 26th edition of the annual Zik Leadership prize is organised by the Public Policy Research and Analysis Centre and chaired by renowned Economist, Prof. Pat Utomi.
The Eko Hotel and Suites, Vitoria Island will host the event at 6.pm as other award recipients in various categories include: the Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Governor of Nasarawa state, Engr. Abdulahi Sule, as they would receive awards on Zik leadership prize for good governance.
The President of the African Development Bank, Dr Akinwunmi Adesina, the Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Mallam Mele Kyari, the Director General and CEO of the Nigerian Maritime Agency (NIMASA) Dr Bashir Jimoh would all be honoured with the Zik Leadership prize for Public Service.
Also to be awarded include the Wife of the former Governor of Akwa Ibom state and current Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Chief Mrs Ekaete Akpabio who will receive the Humanitarian Leadership Prize while the Pioneer Managing Director, Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority, Mr Uche Orji would both receive the leadership prize for professional excellence.
The widely publicised event will have the Emir of Kano, His Royal Highness Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero as its Royal Guest of Honour while it will be chaired by Chef John Nnia Nwodo, Immediate Past President-General of Ohaneze Ndigbo and former Minister of Aviation and Information/ Culture.
Worthy of mention is that Anyim, who has distinguished himself in the nation’s political sphere and public service is being honoured for his numerous, indelible contributions in deepening democracy and rule of law in the country.
He has mentored and appropritely guided several leaders in the country, has been a foundational bedrock-giant and a rallying point among leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) among other Political interests and divides in the country.
The famed Political Iroko of Nigeria and Africa in general recently yielded to the clarion call of by Nigerians across the globe to make himself available for the presidential seat of the country in the 2023 general elections.
The timely declaration coming on the heels of the most peaceful and successful national congress ever held by the PDP, stirred the political environment of the country and presented a high hope and assurance that men of nobility and integrity would present themselves for the position.
The 2020 edition of the Zik leadership prize had its recipients announced in September 2020 at a press conference in Lagos by Utomi, who was the chairman of the selection committee.
The Zik Prize in leadership award scheme named after the nation’s foremost nationalist and first indigenous President, late Rt. Hon Nnamdi Azikiwe, commenced in 1995 and has emerged as one the continent's most revered and acclaimed award events.
