The Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports in Ebonyi state, Hon. Charles Akpuenika has hailed Governor David Umahi over his tenacity in the construction of the new ultra modern Olympic stadium in Abakaliki.
Akpuenika gave the commendation in an interview, noting that the stadium would be a blessing to the people of the state, especially the youths.
"The steady construction work at the stadium is still a surprise to many due to other mega projects which the governor is presently handling.
"The governor is presently constructing the best airport in Nigeria among other gigantic projects which are capital intensive.
"This shows that with the meagre resources of the state, the governor is the greatest manager of resources that Ebonyi has produced.
He noted that the stadium when completed would place Ebonyi at the apex of sporting states in the country and assist in harnessing its full sporting potentials.
"The reconstructed Pa Ngele Oruta stadium is ranked among the best in the country and we have experienced great turnaround in results of sporting activities since its reconstruction.
"The Olympic stadium would add the needed international touch to the performances of our athletes and become a sporting-tourist attraction to visitors from across the country, Africa and the entire globe.
"The construction of the stadium shows clearly the governor's love for youths of the state as he has not relented in churning policies and programmes which would uplift the well-being.
Akpuenika also commended the management committee of the newly-formed state football outfit, the Salt City Football Club of Abakaliki for ensuring the smooth take-off of the club.
"It is now a reality that we now have a brand new club and after the successful screening exercise, we would immediately commence friendly matches for the team.
"We assure Ebonyi people that by the time the new national league football season commences, we would be ready with a club that would do them proud.
