AS the dry season approaches, the Ebonyi State Commissioner for Environment, Grants and Donor Agencies, Honourable Dr. Richard Nnabu has called on residents of the state to avoid indiscriminate bush burning and other environmental pollutants as way of combating fire outbreaks and sundry disastrous effects.
In a release by Collins Azu, the
Media Aide to the Honourable Commissioner, Nnabu said the call became necessary given the fact that some people, rather than deposing their wastes through government designated locations prefers burning —an aberration that endangers microorganisms that play critical role in food production processes.
To ensure residents adhere strictly to the directives in its drive for safe and clean environment for all Ebonyians, the Commissioner said the Ministry will be embarking on local government wide monitoring and sensitisation of locals —to prevent any outbreak of fire.
He also warned errant landlords who have channeled sludge to waterways to provide latrines, water and waste bins for occupiers of such properties.
Failure, the Commissioner insist, will attract severe sanctions.
