One Mr Chinwendu Woke from Igbo-Etche in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State, has allegedly abandoned his wife, Mrs Amaka Chinwend after giving birth to twins through Cesarean section (C-section) in Ebonyi, their residential state.
It was gathered that the family was already having a kid before the arrival of the twins, a baby boy and girl named Desmond and Diamond respectively. Chinwendu Woke's wife, Amaka is from Ekka in Ezza South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
Speaking to journalists in Abakaliki, Amaka explained that she had misunderstanding with her husband, Chinwendu, when he disclosed that his tradition abhors twins and any woman delivered of baby through Cesarean section.
"I used to have an issue with my husband, when he told me that in their place, they don't allow woman giving birth through C-section before I even gave birth to my first issue.
"He said it's taboo in their village, Igbo-Etche to be precise, for a woman to give birth through C-Section. To the glory of God, I later gave birth normal for my first issue but for the second one, I didn't know that I was carrying twins, till seven months, when I went to ultrasound where it was discovered that I was carrying twins.
"Immediately my husband got know of this, we started having misunderstanding. He used to beat hells out of me, and he didn't even care to help me in household works, no matter how weak I might be.
"So, when I was about to put to bed, I now went to scan, and I was told that the position of the babies was not good, but the doctor advised me not to be afraid, that they would turn normal before delivery date.
"When nine months reached, the first one repositioned normal but the second one refused to turn normal. The doctor told me that I will deliver through C-section, and I had to tell my husband, but he started nagging, saying that in his village, his people condemns any woman delivered of baby through C-Section.
"He maintained that if I'm delivered of my babies through C-Section, I will be on my own and he will abandone us. He insisted that in his village, giving birth to twins is taboo, and if I want the marital union to continue, that I should terminate the pregnancy. But I refused terminating the presidency and after I was delivered of my babies, he abandoned us completely," the twin mother narrated.
Amaka who was delivered of the twins at Abakaliki, further said that since her husband abandoned her with their children, they have been sustaining themselves through the assistance of her biological brother.
She said her husband before their marriage claimed to be working but later found out that he does no job till date, since in her words, "he only hustles rounds to sustain life."
The woman who is now 33years equally disclosed that yesterday being 20th December 2021 marked the two months, she was delivered of her twin children.
She said that the hospital bills during her delivery were all cleared by his brother, and declared she no longer interested in the relationship.
"I want my husband to be taking good care of the babies and I don't want to marry him again. I want him to take care of the kids.
"Though, my husband has actually come to my house, but he is yet pay off the bride price and my parents are aware of the recent development," the woman hinted.
Confirming the incidence, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Loveth Odah, said the woman had explained that she started having an issue with her husband because she was delivered of twins through C-Section.
"The woman said that she has committed two abominable acts according to her husband's tradition, two children at a go and giving birth through operation.
"We are going to carry out investigation, because the report before us is that this woman's husband came with a report alleging that one Mr Arinze Utobo, beat him up with seven others and then, kidnapped him and locked him.
"It was on the process of our investigation that the woman came up with her report, because the suspects in the matter were the wife's elder brother and his wife, with the twins.
"It was when we arrested the suspects including the woman with the twins, we now asked why this woman joined this problem and now, got to know she is the wife of the man who alleged that he was beat up and kidnapped by his fellow man with seven others," the Police Mouthpiece said.
