The Special Assistant to Governor Umahi on Local Government, Chieftaincy Matters and Rural Development, Hon. Collins Agbo, accompanied by the State Chairman of Town Union Presidents, the ALGON PRO and others, has today met with the stakeholders, traditional rulers, community leaders, the leadership of Ebubeagu and other dignitaries from Abakaliki Local Government Council, with the intention of educating the people on the need to live in peace and harmony and to be security conscious especially this period of Christmas and new year celebration.
Hon. Agbo who was received by the Council Chairman, Hon. Emmanuel Nwangele at the Local Government Council Headquarters, Nkaliki, reiterated the essence of peace in all parts of the state, and stressed the need to form a synergy among all the relevant authorities in achieving optimum peace in all the nooks and crannies of the area.
"Therefore, the Eze of the community and the town union president of that community with his executives and with the Ezes' cabinet, in collaboration with the leadership of the local government, right from the Chairman to the Coordinators, to the Ward Councillors and then the security outfit of Ebonyi State (Ebubeagu) and the local vigilante, will work in synergy to ensure that there is total peace and tranquillity during this period of Xmas", he noted.
He advised the people to be vigilant at all times, and to be mindful of the returnees who may have the intention of fermenting troubles during this period of festivities, adding that the security of lives and properties should be everybody's business irrespective of political and economic differences.
He also charged the Ebubeagu and the local vigilantes to always work with other security operatives in the state, and to desist from any act capable of negating the purpose for their establishment, while encouraging the people to always report any suspicion of security threats to the relevant authorities for urgent actions.
In his remarks, the Executive Chairman of the Council, Hon. Emmanuel Nwangele, who was ably represented by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Mrs. Chinyere Nkwuda, commended the security initiative of the State Governor, and thanked the SA and his entourage for bringing the message of peace to the people of Abakaliki L.G.A, and promised to take the message serious.
Others who spoke during the meeting, including the former SA to the Governor on Internal Security, Ebonyi North Zone, Hon. Ben Nwovu, the traditional ruler of Amegu community, His Royal Highness, Eze Fidelis Nwonumara, the former Permanent Secretary, Mr. Paul Nwenyim, the former Vice Chairman of the Council, Hon. John Nwophoke, among others, noted that they had been very serious with the security issues in Abakaliki L.G.A, and expressed their readiness to take the message to the hinterlands.
Those who were present at the meeting include: Traditional Rulers/Regents from various communities of Abakaliki Local Government, DC Coordinators, CAN Executives, Local Government Secretary, Town Unions Executives, Leadership of Legislative Council/Ward Councillors, Community Women Leaders, Executives of Local Education Board, Leadership of Ebubeagu (Zonal and Central) in Abakaliki L.G.A, among others.
