The Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (YWCAN) has donated an undisclosed cash gift among other valuable items to the inmates of Abakaliki Correctional service in the spirit of Christmas celebration.
Addressing the people, the Chairman of YWCAN Ebonyi State chapter Deacon Stephen Nwodom, who led other executives of the association in company with notable Clergy men in the State, said they were motivated to make the donation to ameliorate the sufferings of the people, and also to make them feel happy in this celebration of the birth of the lord Jesus Christ and harped on the need for the people to live a righteous life now in the prison and beyond
He admonished the inmates not to weep like people who don't know their God or think as if they are forgotten but always reach God in prayers as he is the only one who has the utmost power to set them free from the prison. He appreciated God for sustaining and preserving the lives of the people and expressed optimism that God in his infinite mercy would grant them bail soon.
Speaking, the Bishop of Methodist Church Abakaliki, Bishop Lawson Elom represented by Reverend Gabriel Udu prayed for quick release of the inmates and thanked YWCAN for assisting the people at the point of their needs and described their intervention as a welcome development.
He advised the inmates, Youths, Men and Women to live a right Parts of life and shun indulging into crime for the betterment of their lives.
Also speaking, the Bishop of Presbyterian Church Abakaliki, Bishop Chidi Igwe observed that there is trouble in every part of life and human endeavors, and advised the inmates to persistently find a way to overcome such temptation saying despite challenges one needs to applaud God in all situations.
The cleric charged the people to sit down and plan for their lives and anchored their faith in God for him to direct their parts while tasking them to live a meaningful life devoid of any criminal act.
In his speech, the Deputy Controller of Abakaliki Correctional service Raymond Nwagu described the visit of YWCAN as a round peg in a round hole and prayed God to replenished them accordingly.
He further advised youths in the State and the Country at large to always make judicious use of every opportunity they have by being useful to themselves, identify their needs and pursue it with the fear of God.
On behalf of the inmates, Apostle Benjamin Ogwuta thanked (YWCAN) for their timely intervention, lamented on the level of their suffering, and appealed for financial assistance from the State, Federal Government and individuals to reduce their plights.
