His Royal Highest Eze Simon Aziewa, the Izhi Lagos Based Traditional ruler in Ohaneze Ndigbo representing Abakaliki Local Government Area, popularly known as Eze Nwachinemere 1 in Adodota Kingdom, has distributed bags of rice, phathoms of wrapper, among other items, that worth millions of naira to over five hundred (500) widows and indigent persons, including women that lost their loved ones in a communal war between the people of Ndiegu Amachi Community in Abakaliki LGA and their Obubra counterpart of Cross River State.
The beneficiaries were drawn from the twelve villages in Ndiegu Amachi Community in Abakaliki Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
The distribution of the gift items was as part of the celebration of Christmas and new year festivities to the people.
Eze Aziewa who hailed from Ibom Amachi but incidentally lost his entire home to the crisis, regretted the high level of untold hardship subjected to the people by the crisis and
told them that all hope have not lost since there is God.
He admonished them to remain faithful to God at all times and called on the government at all levels, well spirited individuals, among others to assist the people so as to ameliorate their sufferings.
While speaking to journalists, Aziewa revealed "my home, my brother's home and my father's home were burnt down but I said that a living dog is better a dead lion, if not that God made me to be trading in the Lagos to the point that I am not always staying in the village like others, the warlords could have captured me live the day they set my house on fire."
"It pains me a lot if I remember these women that lost their husbands who went to the war for the sake of Ndiegu Amachi Community.
"I was motivated to do this so as to make them happy because I saw them and I was shocked.
"Actually, I was also affected by the crisis but I said no I must assist them to reduce their plights," he concluded.
On his part, the former Special Assistant to the Ebonyi State Governor on Industrial Cluster, Hon. Peter Nwogbaga lauded the benefactor for his philanthropic disposition to the people, describing it as a welcome development.
He said his intervention to the people cannot be forgotten in the sands of time.
However, Eze-Oha 1 of Ikorodu Lagos, Eze Augustine Nwego, wife of the benefactor, Lolo Maryann Aziewa, Dr. Victor Egwu, and Mr. Ignatius Ojike, all poured an encomiums to the benefactor for his good deeds, saying that his philanthropic disposition speaks volume and has distinguished himself among his contemporaries, urging him not to relent in doing good as God would bless him.
They further enjoined political office holders and well meaning Nigerians to replicate the philanthropic gesture of Eze Aziewa who has demonstrated love to his people for a better society and expressed optimism that God in his infinite mercy would fill the vacuum created by the death of the young men who lost their lives for the interest of all while advising the women to beckon on God in all their life endeavors.
Other speakers including Clement Igwe, Paul Idenyi, Barr. Simon Nwuguru, among others lauded the benefactor for coming to the aid of the people, describing his intervention as timely and first of its kind in the area, adding that God would continue to reward him for his good deeds, saying that Eze Aziewa is known for rendering humanitarian services to the people in the society.
Some of the benefitting widows including Agnes Ikpenyi, Anthonia Nwazu, Nwanka Mbam, Augustina Edeh and many others, appreciated the the benefactor for remembering them and prayed God to lift him higher in the nearest future.
Meanwhile, Reverend Fr. Anselem Oyon of St. Dominic Parish Oyikwa Amachi had earlier dedicated the event to the hands of God and prayed for the repose of the deceased souls.
