Following the attack at Ezilo police station in Ishielu local government area of Ebonyi State, villagers ran away as unknown gunmen attacked and killed no fewer than three police officers and burnt one Hilux Van during the attack.
According to an eyewitness who wouldn't want his name on print,he explained that the entire Ezilo Community started running helter skelter when they started hearing gunshots near the police station thinking that their neighbors have come to attack them but later discovered in the morning that it was unknown gunmen that lunched attack on the station.
He further alleged that the incident that happened around 11:30pm on Monday night led to the killing of three police officers and also burnt one of their Hilux vehicles.
"In the night yesterday, around 11:30pm,we started hearing gunshots and people were afraid and started running helter skelter.We were thinking that our neighbors have come to attack us.People were running to different places to hide themselves,but later in the morning,we discovered it was attack on Ezilo police station.
"In the morning, around 8:00am,I saw that one of their Hilux vehicles was burnt into ashes.I did not see the bodies of those police officers but I heard that three police officers were killed.
``The entire village ran away,it was only few boys that summoned courage to ascertain what was happening.
Also speaking, Mr.Pius Edeh, a labourer in the Catholic church in the area also said they incident occurred by 11:30pm in the night when the started hearing gunshots along the road which generated tension in the village because people were thinking that the attack is coming from their enemies from the neighboring village which made him to run with his wife to bishop's court for safety.
"It happened around 11:30pm in the night when we started hearing gunshots from the main road.Immediately I called my wife and ran to bishop's court for safety.Our children from the town were calling me to know what was happening.
"Many people ran away but this morning, normalcy has returned.I have seen people going to their farms this morning."
When contacted to react over the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Ebonyi State,CP Garba Aliyu while confirming the incident said he is yet to get the details of the incident``I am yet to get the details,I will let you know later in the day.
