The Senator representing Ebonyi Central Zone in the National Assembly and 2023 Governorship 'candidate' on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, Obinna Ogba, has picked Dr Oliver Osi, as his running mate.
Recall that both Ogba and Ifeanyi Odii, have been enmeshed in a running court battle over who is the authentic governorship flagbearer of the PDP, in Ebonyi State, come 2023.
On Wednesday, Odie also submitted his running mate, in the person of Sen. Paulinus Igwe Nwagu, from Ezza North Local Government Area of the state.
In a letter dated June 22, 2023, which was addressed to the National Chairman of the Party and its National Organising Secretary, Ogba said his action complied with sections 187 (1) and (2) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), the Electoral Guideline and the Peoples Democratic Party Guideline.
The letter, which was received and signed by the National Organising Secretary, on Thursday, and obtained by The PUNCH, read in part, "Nomination of my deputy governorship candidate for the 2023 general election in Ebonyi State...
"The subject matter refers:
"In compliance with sections 187 (1) and (2) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), the Electoral Guideline and the Peoples Democratic Party Guideline, I write to convey my nomination of Hon. Dr Oliver O. Osi, as the Deputy Governorship Candidate of our great party in the forthcoming 2023 general election.
"His nomination is the outcome of detailed and wide-ranging consultations with party stakeholders in the state. I do not doubt that his inclusion will add strong electoral value to our ticket."
Until he was nominated, Osi was the member representing the Ivo Constituency in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly.
