From Victor Nwegede, Abakaliki
Barrister Silas Onu's PDP leadership in Ebonyi has restated commitment to take over the state in the 2023 general elections.
Onu gave the assurance, Saturday in Abakaliki during the inauguration of the campaign office of the PDP gubernatorial candidate in the state, Dr Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii.
The State PDP Chairman noted that the mammoth crowd who were present at Odii's campaign office to pay solidarity to him had shown that the party would win the governorship position before noon on the day of the gubernatorial election.
He urged Ebonyi people to massively register voter cards, saying, "the mammoth crowd here paying solidarity for our gubernatorial candidate can tell you with your PVCs we will win before noon. Ebonyi is PDP, that's why you saw a fight for this ticket but no power will stop him from succeeding Governor David Umahi in 2023."
Also, the State PDP governorship candidate, Dr Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, has urged all the eligible voters to participate massively in the ongoing registration of permanent voter's cards (PVCs) to enable them to vote for credible candidates of their choice.
Odii defined a permanent voter card (PVC) as the power and right to vote for the right candidate in the 2023 general elections.
He said that the winner of any position would only be determined by several votes cast by electorates not rigging and urged the PDP faithful to remain united, with the assurance of his landslide victory in 2023.
"I thank the three-man delegates for choosing me during the primaries. I urge all aggrieved members of our party to embrace peace to win all positions in the State.
"Politics of not united will only slow us down over the strategies to win during the election, but we shall overcome them. Let us come together in solidarity with a common purpose."
On why he chose to be the governor of Ebonyi State, Odii said: "The goal is to create wealth for the people, which I have been doing. We can transform Ebonyi together and we can do it come 2023.
"I am committed to diversifying the state economy and improvement of human empowerment for the people if elected as governor. To the electorates, go and get your PVC so that on the election day, you go out and cast your vote and I believe your vote will surely count."
On his part, Odii's running mate, Senator Paulinus Igwe Nwagu equally urged Ebonyi people to ensure that they obtain their PVCs to enable them to vote during the elections.
He assured Ebonyians that, “in 2023, our vote must surely count," saying "the era of rigging is over" while comparing to what happened in the Ekiti state election.
He noted that his joint ticket with the Odii was well planned to strengthen true governance for the Ebonyi people come 2023.
Earlier, the Campaign Director-General of AnyiChuks Campaign Organisation, Onwe Solomon Onwe pointed out the need for the PVCs by the qualified voters in the forthcoming general elections, urging the stakeholders at the community level not to back down in sensitizing the public on the importance of voter card registration in their areas.
Our correspondent reports that the PDP Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar and his running mate were represented at the occasion.
