A Non-Governmental Organization, NGO known as Ebele and Anyichucks Foundation has given succour of N5m to the 36 victims of fire outbreaks which happened at the Eke-Ukwu market at Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
The President and the founder of the NGO, Dr Ifeanyi-Chukwuma Odii was represented by the Ebonyi State Coordinator of the Foundation, Mr Christian Onu disclosed this to Journalists while giving out the donation at the market square where the inferno occurred.
Onu said the members and the supporters of the Foundation were there for on-spot assessment to enable see by themselves.
"From what we have discovered here, 36 shops were rased down which invariably has inflicted pains on the 36 owners. We know that this money cannot be equalized by what fire has damaged but to assist you in alleviating the current suffering you are passing through.
"We are here as a humanitarian agency satisfied by United Nations to help you not as a political party," Onu said.
He said that the Foundation is also feeling the pains of the victims.
The Coordinator said the money is given to whoever the incident has affected irrespective of your political, religious and cultural affiliation.
He said the assessment shall help them to give feedback to his Principal, Dr Odii for further action.
However, Onu encouraged everyone to always off their electrical appliances when going out of their home or shop to avoid this kind of ugly situation from reoccurring.
The President General of Afikpo Town Union, Mr Okogwu Ogbonna thanked Odii for coming to help them at times like this.
Ogbonna prayed for God's continuous blessings on the NGO.
On her part, a female Lawmaker, representing Afikpo North East State Constituency, Mrs Ngozi Eziulo thanked Dr Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii and all his team for showing kind gestures to the people of her constituency who were rendered helpless by fire.
The lawmakers prayed to God to grant the ambition of Odii to become the Governor of Ebonyi State Southeast Nigeria in the 2023 general election.
It would be recalled that a mysterious fire outbreak razed down part of the popular Eke Ukwu market in Afikpo North local government area of Ebonyi state on 12th July 2022, which destroyed goods worth millions of naira.
