Ebonyi State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned in the strongest term the Federal High Court judgement which invalidated the elections of 13 Local Government chairmen and 171 ward councillors held on 30th July 2022.
The voided elections by the court were all won by the APC candidates, waiting for swearing-in in September 2022.
But the members of the opposition parties in the state under the leadership of the Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC approached the court to cancel the election over alleged irregularities and noncompliance with the provisions of the 2022 Electoral Act and other relevant laws.
The court has accordingly nullified the local government elections, saying the processes adopted by the Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission, EBSIEC were undemocratic.
In a swift reaction, the Chairman of the APC in Ebonyi, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha said the court must have been misled in passing such unwarranted judgement stressing that the law of natural justice will certainly take its course in the fullness of time.
He, however, took a swipe at the opposition political parties for masterminding the mischievous and treacherous act against the interest of the Ebonyi people who came out in their large numbers to affirm the victory of the 13 Local Government Areas Chairmen and 171 ward councillors at the polls.
He said, "since the ruling will not pass the furnace test, re-conduct the council polls a million times, APC will still prove its popularity and acceptability by the mass because we will always cruise to a landslide victory.
"The bonafide Ebonyi people should be assured that their voices can never be subdued or undermined by evil forces parading themselves as dying political parties. Very soon, they will go into total extinction."
