An Ebonyi-born Industrialist, Arc Dr Edward Nkwegu (EDON) on Tuesday in Abakaliki was elected unopposed as the Labour Party (LP) gubernatorial candidate for the 2023 polls in the state.
Arc Nkwegu was declared the winner of the Ebonyi State LP governorship ticket by the party's returning officer, Mrs Oluchi Okpara, who conducted the primary election, which led to his victory.
In his acceptance speech, Nkwegu expressed joy over his victory and commended the party delegates for the confidence reposed in him.
The governorship hopeful assured the LP members and his supporters that the party would emerge victorious in the state come 2023 general elections.
Our correspondent reports that a former House of Reps member and Chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Linus Okorie, a Governorship Aspirant of the PDP, Chief Eze Emmanuel, a Chieftain of the party, Anselem Enigwe, former Commissioner for Education in the state, Prince Chibuez Agbo have also decamped Labour Party.
Okorie was learnt to have equally become the Ebonyi South Senatorial candidate of the LP, Enigwe, Eze and Agbo are Senatorial and House of Representatives candidates of the party for the forthcoming general election.
The candidates and stakeholders of the party witnessed the election of Nkwegu as the state governorship standard-bearer.
Recall that Nkwegu was a Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress and had aspired to fly the gubernatorial flag of the ruling party but the plan was truncated by his apparent fate and the political forces in the state.
His priorities were to industrialize Ebonyi, by boosting the economy of the state and assuring massive employment opportunities with wealth creation.
