The Chairman of the Motorcycle Transporters Union of Nigeria, MTUN in Ebonyi State Rev. Nicolas Akuma has warned his members to shun indulging in social vices.
He gave the warning during the Union's prayer submission in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.
Akuma said the prayer was to seek the face of God for his protection and guidance of his members as they discharge their lawful duties in ember months.
He warned them to desist totally from joining any group that endangers their lives, consumption of illicit drugs and other misconducts that could drag the image of the Union into the mud.
He further urged them to persistently observe all the safety measures in the course of their duties and called on security agencies especially Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to synergize with his members by giving them a level playground to operate, considering their contributions to the economic growth and development of the State.
He called on Ebonyi State Government to accommodate his members in the ongoing empowerment schemes to ease their means of livelihood and enjoined the people to continue to be law-abiding citizens, by reporting immediately anyone caught using their name to perpetrate evil in the State, adding that he had set up a surveillance team to checkmate the activities of the members.
The State Secretary of the union, Njoku Daniel and the financial Secretary Sunday Origbo noted the prayer was organized to keep their members free from accidents and called on political party candidates to identify with the union for their maximum support as they contributed much to the Democratic setting.
Meanwhile, the APC youth leader in the State Alo Ogbonnaya who represented the State Government has assured of the continuous support to the union by Governor David Umahi's led administration, especially in the areas of welfare and empowerment of its members.
