The Ebonyi government says it will make its athletes who won medals at the recent Taekwondo open championship in Bayelsa state, world beaters.
The state's six representatives won two gold, three silver and one bronze medal to place overall third at the championship.
The Director of Sports in the state Sports Council, Emmanuel Utobo said in Abakaliki that the youngsters had done the state proud.
"The athletes include: Chizaram Ifeanyi who won gold in the cadet category, Peter Chekwube-gold in -32kg junior category and Winifred Nwankwo--silver in -62 senior category.
"The others include Chiemerie Inyima--silver in 49kg junior category, Chibueze Omar--silver in -40kg junior category and James Chekwube--bronze in -39 junior category.
He noted that the athletes would be adequately trained to win more laurels for the state and become national, continental and world champions.
"We would expose them to more competitions to harness their skills and represent the country in international competitions.
"The forthcoming national sports festival will provide a veritable avenue for them to showcase their talents as would be adequately prepared for the competition.
Utobo remarked that the government will appreciate the glory brought to the state by the athletes and always motivate them for improved performances.
James Onwe, Coach of the athletes thanked the state government for their support, noting that such motivation made them succeed.
"The athletes are young and eager to learn as they bravely confronted their opponents with great tact.
"We seek continued encouragement from the government in other to win more laurels for the state.
Chiemerie Inyima, a silver medalist thanked God for a successful outing and her parents for their love and support towards her pursuit.
"I will duly combine the sport with my academics and improve on my performance to win gold medals in future.
