To ensure that the 2022 International Day for Girl Child in Ebonyi State is impactful on young Women and Girls, An Initiative Known as Cafe Scientifique Woman has Organised Science Engagement Program for Young Girls to enable them to know much about Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, STEM.
The Coordinator of the Program, Chioma Ajah during her opening remarks said the Initiative is to bring Young Women/Girls closer to science activities to reduce the level of ignorance among young Girls when it comes to Science in the State and Nigeria at large.
Ajah informed me that the Initiative is mainly for Knowledge Sharing.
"Cafe Scientifique Woman is a knowledge sharing and acquisition hub committed to creating light bulb moment for women and girls in STEM"
"It also aims to bring the gender gap in the STEM field by engaging young women through exposure to experts and trending topics in the STEM". Ajah added.
The Coordinator further informed the Girls that the Mission of the Initiative is to provide platforms for networking with peers and Professionals for research and product development and output.
"It is a medium of connecting women/Girls to Mentors for guidance and counselling". She added.
On her part, the Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Biology, Mrs Kate Nnamani was happy about such an innovative Program and encouraged the initiator Chioma Ajah to continue with her good work.
Two of the participants of the program, Miss Ugo Chisom of the Computer Science Department and Okorie Janeth of Soil Science and Environmental Management, on behalf of others thanked the Organisers and called on Government to support the Initiative to grow bigger than this.
The Program witnessed Debate on Human Genome Sequencing, Science games and Riddles.
It would be recalled that the United Nations General Assembly has passed a resolution number 66/170 that October 11 should be recognized worldwide as International Day For Girl Child.
