A non-governmental Organization under the auspices of Inspiring Generation and Humanity Support Foundation (IGHUSUF) Africa has inaugurated Chief Security Officers for the safe school taskforce for the girl child in Ebonyi state.
This was to mark this year 2022 International year for the girl child.
Performing the function, the Executive Director of IGHUSUF, Mr Darlinton Onwe said that event was born out it the decay in the public school which is posing a great threat to the safety of the girl child in places of learning.
One who also identified the absence of parameter fencing in some public schools in the state added that the organization would strengthen campaigns at the grassroots level to advance the safety of the girl child in places of learning.
He also identified cultism, truancy, non-staff quarters for teachers, late payment of salaries and parenting as other basic challenges facing the safety of the girl child.
His words: "today under the umbrella of IGHUSUF Africa, we have gathered here to commemorate this year 2022 international year for safe schools for the girl child and it would provide us with the opportunity to inaugurate the first event CSOs for safe school task force for the girl child in Ebonyi.
"Also we have identified how to make our schools and learning centres safe and now it is our great time to make the girl child safety in schools.
"The areas we earlier identified were: no parameter fencing in some public schools, cultism, truancy, non-staff quarters for teachers, late payment of salaries and parenting.
"Also, substances abuse, sexual abuse, gender-based violence, lack of teachers and absence of political will as well as infrastructure were among other reasons that do not guarantee the safe school for the girl child in Ebonyi", he explained.
To address these challenges, the Executive Director of (IGHUSUF) Africa noted that the organization would liaise and involve stakeholders at the grassroots level in its sensitization programmes.
