Ebonyi gubernatorial candidate under the platform of Labour Party (LP), Architect Edward Nkwegu has appointed Barrister George Ukpai as the Director General (DG) of his campaign council for the 2023 general election in the state.
Arc Nkwegu disclosed this at Nkwegu Ugbala Grand Arena in Abakaliki during his interaction with journalists on the preparedness of his party to win the forthcoming general elections.
The Labour Party governorship candidate congratulated Barrister Ukpai for his appointment, saying the Deputy Directors and other members of his campaign council would be made known to the general public soon.
He also disclosed that the Labour Party in the state received a group of people from Action Alliance into the Party.
He said, "The decampees are now members of the Labour Party, LP. We also received a group of physically challenged persons who came and declared their support for the Obi-diet movement and Labour Party in the State.”

Meanwhile, Barrister George Ukpai, the Director General of Nkwegu's Campaign Council, expressed gratitude for his appointment.
"I feel highly elated and I must commend my principal - Architect Dr Edward Nkwegu who has found me worthy and competent to drive this project of realizing his gubernatorial ambition in Ebonyi State of Nigeria," the DG stated.
Ukpai, who was the Local Government Auditor General of the state also called well-meaning Nigerians and Ebonyians to join hands with him alongside the Labour Party faithful in the state in realising the project.
He explained: "The project is worth pursuing, and by his grace, we shall realize this project, given the antecedents, the competence, the capacity of our principal (Edward Nkwegu) to drive Ebonyi State, to realize the dreams of our founding fathers."
Speaking on his plan to ensure the ruling party in the state did not stop his principal's 2023 ambition, Ukpai said, "He who goes into the kitchen should not complain of it. We will employ all legitimate means, to pursue any form of operation, any form of intimidation, as a party and as a campaign council.
"We haven't come to fight anybody, we haven't come to confront anybody, because everybody has his/her role(s) to play in the society. Everybody has his/her role(s) to play in Ebonyi State because we are all Ebonyians, and we are all here to contribute our quota towards moving Ebonyi State forward.
"People have ruled this state, they have made their contributions, and the sitting governor (David Umahi) is making his contributions to move the state forward.
"What we are saying is that his (Umahi's) tenure will end on 29th May 2023, and we want a replacement and that competent replacement is Architect Dr Edward Nkwegu, that's our position because it's not by fighting since the election is not war, and we do not intend to execute any war. What we need to do is to drive our election legitimately to convince the electorate to give us victory."
