From Beverly Ehia, Abakaliki
The atmosphere of Unwana Community in Afikpo North local government area of Ebonyi state Tuesday changed as some aged women received payment of two hundred and thirty-five thousand Naira.
The Chairman of the local government, Uchenna Nnajiofor Ibiam personally paid the money to the women.
Ibiam made the payment during a prayer summit organized in his favour by Iynomu Unwara.
The Women prayed for the protection and sustentation of the chairman in office, they also prayed for the Director General of Ebonyi state Broadcasting Corporation(EBBC) among other government appointees from Unwana community.
Addressing the people, the Chairman said the payment would be on monthly basis. He used the opportunity to canvas support for the All Progressive Congress(APC).
He said, "If you want me to remain in office vote for APC. Vote for Nwifuru and our daughter Princess Obila for Governor. Vote for Umahi for Senate, vote for Eni Uduma Chima for Reps and others.
" APC is the only party that gave women the slot of becoming the Deputy Governorship candidate and it was zones to Afikpo. No other party remembered the women but APC.
"I want you people our mothers to support us, I don't want to lose your votes, APC will take care of you.
"I will start payment of 15 thousand nairas each to the leaders (Ndichina Nwanyi) oldest women age grades to help them take care of themselves. I am giving 100 thousand nairas to members of
the age grades following them, I will sustain this payment as long as I remain in office.
Director General of the Ebonyi state broadcasting corporations, Eng. Timothy Nwachi
"Ebonyi state has had three civilian governors including the incumbent Governor but of all the one that has benefited Unwana more is the government of David Umahi. When Chief A.U Akaa served as the chairman of the local government when we were still under Abia state, since we came into Ebonyi state our community has been dribbled in terms of the chairmanship position of the local government, this position that came to Unwana was the promise the Governor made to Unwana in 2016. We are happy because Governor Umahi kept to his promise.
"I want Unwana people to know that Governor Umahi will leave office on May 29, 2023, but Uchenna Nnajiofor Ibiam will remain in office after the 29th, but he needs somebody he will be taking direction from.
That is why between February and March new person will be elected to replace Umahi but no one will be elected to replace Uchenna Nnajiofor.
"But Uchenna Nnajiofor needs people that will work with him, he needs people that will have the same understanding as him, that is why I want to solicit seriously to Unwana women to support him by voting for candidates of APC in the forthcoming elections."
