The Senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, Dr Sam Egwu has called on Nigerians to shun electoral violence thereby embracing peace in their vicinities.
Senator Egwu made the call during the thanksgiving service of the Izhia Christian Union, where he campaigned for peaceful co-existence among Nigerians,
The Federal Lawmaker during the event held at his Umuebe village in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State said: “If truly you are of God who is universally known for peace, there is no reason for you to see vices as the final option or solution for any problem.”
He urged every politician, especially individuals contesting one political position or the other to put their trust in God and avoid other smaller gods that can start demanding human sacrifices.
“Let me tell you, there is no power above God Almighty. Nobody should deceive you into seeking political power from smaller gods which will demand what you cannot afford," the Senator said.
Recall that Dr Egwu had served as the Commissioner for Education in Ebonyi before he emerged as the first civilian governor of the state, the Minister of Education in Nigeria and currently a two-term serving Senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
The Ebonyi-born political Iroko recalled: "From my first day in politics till date, and all the enviable positions that I have held, starting from Commissioner, Governor, Minister and now Senator, I have never visited smaller gods for powers. I get my powers from God almighty in heaven. That has been my footrest."
Meanwhile, the Chairman Planning Committee of Izhia Christian Union’s Prayer summit, Pastor Ifeanyi Ogala, the National President of the Union, Mrs Patricia Ede and other members of the congregation together prayed for the success of Senator Egwu in his Senatorial ambition and all others contesting in the 2023 general elections, both at the state and national levels.
