Moving closer to the March 2023 governorship election, a coalition of twenty-two political parties adopted Architect Edward Nkwegu as her preferred gubernatorial candidate in Ebonyi state.
The adoption of Nkwegu, the state governorship candidate of the Labour Party by the coalition of the political parties took place at Nkwegu Ugbala Grand Arena.
Speaking during the colourful ceremony which witnessed a mammoth crowd, the National Leader of the Coalition, Dr Sam Eke, said the Coalition described Nkwegu as the most credible candidate among other contestants for the state governorship position.
He said that the coalition had vowed not to support a misfit coming to power again in Ebonyi and other states across the nation.
“We need a competent, qualified and capable person to lead us from corruption to production. We need a person who can create jobs for our teeming and helpless unemployed youths. We need a person who can show evidence of performance in the past.
“We have found such a person in Arc Edward Nkwegu, the LP Governorship Candidate in Ebonyi State.
“He is confident, prudent, competent and sincere and we are sure he is the only person that can transform Ebonyi State for the better,” the National Leader said.
Eke advised the people to reject monetary inducements to influence their votes otherwise, they would be sentencing themselves and their children into perpetual enslavement.
Also addressing the crowd, the Zonal Coordinator of the group, Chief Japheth Anyanwu, described the event as historic as it marked the liberation of the people.
Anyanwu said the Coalition’s main objective is to promote good governance and add value to the lives of the people.
Reacting, Arc Edward Nkwegu said he was overwhelmed by the support given to him by the group.
He said Labour Party was populated by people who have visions and ideas that transcend religious and ethnic boundaries.
“We have audacious and courageous people. We have people who are committed to pulling down the structures of injustice, corruption and unemployment and enthroning good governance," he said.
He expressed appreciation to the people for the endorsement and pledged not to fail Ebonyi State when he becomes governor.
The inauguration of Coalition’s Executive Committee members in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo States was another highlight of the event.
