2023: Ebonyi candidates sign peace accord

All the candidates of different political parties in Ebonyi have signed a peace accord in preparation for the forthcoming general elections in the state. 

The peace accord which is one of the requisite functions to precede the elections was signed by all the candidates of the different political parties as presented by the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies in the state. 

The Ebonyi gubernatorial candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Francis Nwifuru, through his Chief Press Secretary, Leo Oketa disclosed this in a statement on Monday. 

According to the statement, Nwifuru led all the APC candidates for various elective positions to Cirenes Hotel, Abakaliki, for signing the all-important document.

 

Nwifuru who is the incumbent Ebonyi State House of Assembly, lauded the sincere commitment of all the candidates from various political parties, for being present by themselves to fill the dotted lines and not sending representatives.

 

“This signing of the Peace Accord is a necessity as far as this exercise is concerned. I am delighted that the candidates have come by themselves to append their signatures on this important document and not send representatives. 

"It shows that all of us have the capacity and competency to be Governors of the State because we have demonstrated sincerity and commitment to maintaining peace in Ebonyi State.

 

“I urge candidates of all political parties including myself to keep to the tenets of what we have signed here. To adhere to the regulations given by the umpire – INEC and of course, the security agencies. I am sure that my Party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) will keep every bit of the Peace Accord,” the Speaker said.

 

Nwifuru further commended the peace-loving effort of the Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief David Nweze Umahi and noted that the massive developments in the State are offshoots of his friendly disposition as a leader with a proper vision and mission for the Ebonyi citizens.
