From Victor Nwegede, Abakaliki
The Bishop of the Anglican Communion, Abakaliki Diocese, His Lordship Monday Nkwoagu has urged all eligible voters in Nigeria to be active in promoting democracy thereby coming out in mass to vote for their preferred candidates on election days.
Bishop Nkwoagu made the call on Sunday while interacting with newsmen on how to record a successful outing in the 25th February and 11th March general elections in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.
He advised Nigerians to understand that the already scheduled general elections would only determine power transition when conducted by the electoral umpire to enable the eligible voters to choose the candidates of their choice.
While canvassing against the electoral violence, the Anglican Bishop urged all the Christians across the nation to conduct themselves in a promising manner to guarantee free, fair and credible elections.
He said: "We have prayed and still praying, but you have to complement the prayers by coming out en mass to vote for the person who will make Nigerians happy and make our economy good and stable as well”
“I am going to vote too but one thing I cannot do is cast my vote for someone who likes blood-shedding. Nobody who sheds People’s blood will climb the seat, even when such person wangles his way to the seat, such person will not complete his tenure because the such person will die the o the word too."
Bishop Nkwoagu noted that the Churches have been campaigning for peaceful elections to discourage voter apathy in the forthcoming polls in the country.
"Churches has been in serious campaign for non-violence election rather everyone should be allowed to enjoy his or her fundamental human rights exercising your franchise is one of the rights,” he said.
He equally urged youths not to allow themselves to be used as tools of destruction in the electioneering period, but to be the promoters of democracy in the country, where every political party would enjoy a level playing ground in exercising their franchise in any part of the country.
