Not less than two thousand eight hundred (2,800) people have benefited from the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) empowerment programme of the Senator representing Ebonyi North District in the National Assembly, Dr Sam Ominyi Egwu since he assumed office in 2015.
NATIONAL PANEL reports that the ICT programme tagged "Entrepreneurship and Leadership Skills Empowerment" was nominated by Senator Egwu as a part of the Zonal Intervention Project (ZIP) for Ebonyi North Senatorial District for seven good years.
The programme which was powered by the Centre for Satellite Technology Development of the National Space Research and Development Agency, Abuja and being executed by Senator Egwu recorded at least 400 beneficiaries from Ebonyi North Senatorial District every year.
Speaking on Saturday during the grand finale of a three-day ICT training for 2022 at Salt Spring Resort in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, Senator Egwu said his love for Ebonyi North people made him initiate and attract the programmes that would be of great value for them while in the seat of power.
Senator Egwu represented by the former Coordinator of Ozibo Development Centre in Ebonyi Local Government Area of the State, Mr Michael Nwambam noted that he had organised the ICT training and empowerment programme for his constituents for seven consecutive times, urging the beneficiaries who were empowered with laptops to use their acquired knowledge during the programme to better their future.
"Ebonyi North people, I love you all. I wish to translate my love for you with human-oriented programmes. The computer is not for the yahoo business, nor sale, but use it to benefit from the digital global trends."
The Senator who is seeking reelection in the February 25 poll, urged the people of Ebonyi North Senatorial Zone to come out en mass to vote for him and other PDP candidates in the state.
"On Saturday come out in mass to vote for me without fear of intimidation. Don't allow yourself to be induced with money. Vote for PDP because our votes must count on you this time."
Also speaking, the former Executive Chairman of Ebonyi Local Government Area of the State, Prof Adaeze Nwuzor noted that over 2,000 people from Ebonyi North Senatorial District had benefited from Senator Egwu's ICT training and empowerment programme since 2015 till date.
She said, hardly will you see any village that has not benefitted from the ICT training and empowerment programme. I know very well, that Senator Egwu had organised the ICT programme for seven years. Each year, he will enrol at least 400 people from Ebonyi North to benefit from this ICT training, and if you multiply 400 by seven you know the total number of beneficiaries of this programme.
"Each laptop is N370,000 and this should encourage you to make good use of the computer to enhance your talents."
"On Saturday, we should come out massively to vote for Senator Sam Egwu, because he remains the father of Ebonyi State, and another name for Sam Egwu is humility, God-fearing and development," she added.
On his part, the Senior Legislative Aide to Senator, Mr Morgan Nwankwo, recalled that his principal had drilled boreholes, motorised boreholes, distributed transformers, and built skill acquisition centres, roads, and other projects in every village in the Ebonyi North Senatorial District.
Some of the beneficiaries of the programme including Louis Nwali, Chukwuma Igboke, Ukamaka Ugadu, Pius Ogbaga, and Blessing Ochenu, among others commended Senator Egwu's different projects since he assumed office, and assured him of massive votes to ensure his landslide victory in the forthcoming election.
