Moving forward to the February and March polls, the Ebonyi gubernatorial candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) Prophet Chris Adol Awam has assured of civil service reform, respect for human rights and press freedom if emerged victorious at the 2023 general elections.
He stated this during the Human Rights Town Hall Session organized by the National Human Rights Commission, NHRC on Thursday at Cirene Hotel, Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State Capital.
Awam who promised to promote institutions and policies to strengthen human rights maintained that his administration would peoples' oriented, with full adherence to the rule of law, checks and balances, press freedom and autonomy to every institution and arms of the government.
“Under my watch, the judiciary, local government councils, and the press will be allowed to operate within the provisions of the constitution without intimidation and suppression. This is because I have been a victim of intimidation and that depressing system must be abolished if we must run an inclusive government where every Ebonyian will thrive," the NNPP governorship candidate pledged.
He reiterated his commitment to reform the civil service through an upward review of salaries to match the inflation surge, improve infrastructure in public schools, and implement quality free and compulsory education from the primary to the secondary school level with assurance for scholarships to the best-performing students at the tertiary institutions.
