Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State.
From Victor Nwegede, Abakaliki
Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has warned the newly inaugurated internal security groups by his administration not to operate on election days in the state.
The new security networks were recently created by the Ebonyi State House of Assembly.
They are Ebonyi Neighbourhood Watch fashioned after the Neighborhood Watch in Anambra State and Ebonyi Vigilante Corps, fashioned after the Amotekun in South West Nigeria.
Umahi has earlier directed the immediate resumption of activities of the new security outfits recently, while briefing pressmen at his office, New Government House, Centenary City, Abakaliki on Wednesday.
But the governor directed that the Ebonyi Security outfits do not operate on the two election days of February 25, and March 11, 2023, respectively for general elections.
Umahi also said that “strict compliance is demanded as the security agencies have been mandated to ensure same is not flouted.”
He, therefore, wished Ebonyians and all the candidates involved in very peaceful elections.
