The Ebonyi State governorship candidate of New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Chris Sunday Adol-Awam has been accused of buying his ticket with a credit sum of 11 million Naira, the money for the expression of interest and nomination forms during his party primary election.
Ebonyi State NNPP Chairman, Solomon
Chukwu disclosed this while interacting with Journalists at the NNPP's State office yesterday in Abakaliki town.
He alleged that Adol Awam bought his gubernatorial ticket on credit, and later gave a bounce cheque of 5.5 million naira as a part payment but had refused to pay any kobo into the party's bank account to date.
Chukwu further alleged that Adol-Awam mobilized his political thugs to beat him on the 14th of March 2023, at his compound in Abakaliki, the State capital, over the alleged diversion of the party's funds into his pocket for self-aggrandizing.
"While Adol-Awam and his thugs were beating me, I told them that nobody gave me 78 million Naira, except the 500 thousand Naira, the National gave to me personally. They continue to beat me and embarrassed me in his compound, mercilessly."
He deported the rumours making rounds in some quarters that the NNPP has two factions in Ebonyi State, saying Adol-Awam was the only person causing a crisis in the party.
He declared that the said "Adol-Awam is no longer a member of the NNPP in Ebonyi," stressing that his refusal to redeem his guber ticket debt, contributed to his selfish interest igniting the party leadership into crisis.
"As I'm talking to you, Adol-Awam bought his guber ticket on credit. The cost of our party forms was 11 million Naira, but Adol-Awam gave us a cheque of 5.5 million Naira, as a partial payment during our primary election.
"He begged us to give him the ticket and promised to clear debts later. When we approached him before the electioneering campaigns, he began to showcase uncalled-for attitudes, disgracing us in the State, because he didn't clear the cheque of the 5.5million Naira including some of them he was parading as the party's candidates for State Assembly seats."
Also speaking, the Coordinator for Senator Rabi'u Kwakwanso Presidential Campaign Committee, Hon James Nwite regretted that the NNPP leadership has been receiving attacks from the camp of the state governorship candidate, Adol-Awam even before Saturday 18th March polls.
Hon Nwite said though he experienced a raw deal from 'Adol-Awam and his boys' over false allegations, called for the aggrieved members of the NNPP in Ebonyi to cease-fire to ensure peace and unity among themselves in the state.
While commending the National leader and 2023 Presidential Candidate of the NNPP, Senator Rabi'u Kwakwanso for his commitment to move the party forward, Nwite urged stakeholders and members of the party to unite forces to accomplish the party's missions and visions in 2027.
When contacted, Adol-Awam described the allegations as laughable, saying it was because his party's National leadership knew his worth that made it gave him a free ticket to run the just concluded gubernatorial election.
