Ebonyi State Governor's wife, Mrs Mary-Maudline Nwifuru has announced that her office rescued not less than 20 girls from their traffickers.
She confirmed that the 20 Ebonyi girls who were allegedly trafficked to Anambra State for prostitution by suspected traffickers were rescued recently.
Mrs Nwifuru who disclosed this Abakaliki during the flag-off community sensitization on the rights of Ebonyi children and the need to stop child trafficking in the State, also confirmed the arrest of the culprits.
The Ebonyi first lady also vowed to protect and fight for women, children, and girls in the state.
According to the governor of the state, her office has empowered about 15 women financially who suffered various forms of abuse by their husbands.
She described child trafficking and other forms of abuse of women and children as criminal offences and warned perpetrators against them.
Mrs Nwifuru noted that women, girls, and children have suffered a lot of abuse in the state and beyond.
The governor's wife recalled that she can no longer wait to see them passing through what they are passing through in the hands of the perpetrators without the perpetrators being punished in line with the law.
