The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ebonyi State Chapter, Thursday joined hands with the state government to host the inaugural ceremony of its new executives and the conferment of honorary awards.
The event held at Christian Ecumenical Centre in Abakaliki capital city, brought together prominent Christian leaders, government officials, and members of the Christian community to celebrate and strengthen their commitment to the development and well-being of the state.
The ceremony chaired by Architect Edward Nkwegu, commenced with a soul-stirring rendition of hymns and prayers, invoking blessings upon the new executives and the state.
The atmosphere was infused with a sense of unity and purpose, as the attendees eagerly anticipated the official installation of the newly elected executives.
The newly appointed executives, under the leadership of the Chairman, Rev. Dr. Scamb Nwokolo, were sworn in by the National CAN delegates and witnessed by Ebonyi Governor, Chief Francis Nwifuru who described the event as a reminder of the close collaboration between the Christian association and the state administration.
The governor represented by his deputy, Chief Mrs Patricia Obilo who graced the occasion as the special guest of honour, highlighted the importance of religious harmony and the pivotal role of the Christian community in fostering peace and development. He commended the Christian Association of Nigeria for its continuous efforts in promoting unity and contributing to the overall well-being of the state.
The governor also pledged his administration's commitment to supporting the Christian community in their various endeavours, emphasizing the significance of faith-based organizations in driving positive change and addressing societal challenges.
In his inaugural address, the newly inaugurated State CAN Chairman, Rev. Dr. Scamb Nwokolo expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve and pledged to work tirelessly to promote unity, peace, and progress among all Christians in the state.
The event also featured the conferment of honorary awards to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and made significant contributions to the growth of Christianity and the betterment of society.
Among the recipients were notable clergymen, philanthropists, and community leaders who have displayed an unwavering commitment to their faith and selfless service to humanity.
Some of the State CAN Executives including the Vice Chairman, Rev Dr Joseph Nwibo expressed their appreciation to the state government for its immense support and collaboration. He reiterated the association's commitment to working hand in hand with the government in areas such as education, healthcare, poverty alleviation, and social welfare programs, all aimed at improving the lives of the people.
