The Ebonyi State government led by Governor Francis Nwifuru has assured the National Union of Medical Herbal Practitioners (NUMHP) of a robust partnership in the state.
The Special Assistant to the Governor on Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), Hon Martin Okwuegbu gave the assurance on Thursday during the courtesy visit of the NUMHP members at his office, old Government House, Abakaliki.
Okwuegbu observed the important roles of the traditional medicine practitioners in generalities of healing and other medical interventions to keep life healthy and fit, and thus, reiterated the government's assurance for the union to keep moving successfully in the state.
He further advised the leadership of the union to be steadfast in delivering its good agenda, especially in maintaining sanity among the members and warned that the state government would not tolerate any herbalist using his/her gift of healing power to witch hunt talents and the society at large.
Earlier in his remarks, the NUMHP State Chairman, Chief Dr. Madubuchi Ojiugwo Nwogbaga extolled the state government for its commitment to addressing the problems of the state citizens especially in the area of health.
Nwogbaga commended the state governor's approval of the recruitment of professional medical personnel in the state and the establishment of the Ebonyi Traditional Medicine Board.
He, however, pleaded the state government's support for the sales of an herbal license permit to the practising members of the union in Ebonyi State.
The license permit, according to him, would serve as part of the union's effort to complement the state government's policy, especially in establishing the Ebonyi Traditional Medicine Board.
He described it as an unfortunate leadership skirmish which had rippled the National Association of Nigerian Traditional Medicine Practitioners, NANTMP.
Nwogbaga explained that the fragmented factions of the NANTMP have collapsed their wings into one body known as the National Union of Medical Herbal Practitioners (NUMHP) Ebonyi State Chapter to work diligently to support the state government, especially in traditional medical and economic development in the state.
The State Woman Leader of the union, Trado-Dr Obiageli Ujunwa Oyibe also applauded Governor Francis Nwifuru's administration, saying the union remains grateful for the achievements recorded within the first 100 days of office by the regime.
