The Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Umar Yusu has been asked to commence impeachment proceedings against the current Governor, Usman Ododo.
Deji Ajare, a prominent human rights lawyer made the call in a formal letter to the Speaker, circulated in the media platforms.
The letter cites serious allegations of misconduct and abuse of office against the governor.
The letter highlights a particular incident involving Governor Ododo’s purported role in aiding the former governor, Yahaya Bello, to avoid arrest by using the official governor’s motorcade.
This act, according to Ajare, represents a clear obstruction of justice and an inappropriate use of state resources.
The controversy stems from an event reported by The Punch, where Governor Ododo is said to have helped his predecessor escape detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The EFCC sought to apprehend Bello about a substantial money laundering case involving N80.2 billion.
Ajare has stressed the necessity for the state assembly to work in unison with the EFCC to guarantee that all individuals implicated are made available for comprehensive questioning and investigation. He has urged for an exhaustive investigation into the accusations and called for prompt and decisive measures to be taken by the House of Assembly in light of the alleged infractions by Governor Ododo.
