In its way to improve the standard of education in the state, the State House fo Assembly Committee on education has held a crucial meeting with actors in the educational sector in the three zones starting from Ebonyi North Senatorial Zone.
Speaking at the Abakaliki Local Government Secretariat during the Ebonyi North Zone meeting, the Chairman of the committee and the member representing Ebonyi North West Constituency, Barr. Aloysius Nwodo maintained that the meeting become imperative to address some challenges being faced in the sector and an effort geared towards meeting the grassroot educational demands of the state.
Other members of the committee who spoke include Hon. Goodluck Mbam representing Izzi East Constituency, Hon. Mrs. Chinyere Nwogbaga from Ebonyi North East, Hon. Victor Nwoke of Abakaliki North, Hon. Stephen Orji Igwe representing Edda East and Hon. Mrs. Esther Agwu representing Ohaukwu North Constituency affirmed that the only way to support the people’s charter of needs program of the State Government in the educational sector was to reposition the standard and be more proactive in dealing with the challenges faced in the sector.
Some challenges being faced in the sector as pronounced by the Chairman of Secondary Education Board, Mrs. Lilian Nwankwo, and the counterpart in the universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Livinus Ezeuwa Include inefficiency of teachers, non-conformity to school establishment guidelines, lack of education resource centres and inadequate teaching and learning materials.
To these, the meeting resolved that henceforth that no establishment of schools in any place against the stipulated guidelines of school establishment. And that the Secondary Education Board and the Local Education Secretaries Should be solely responsible for the posting and transferring of teachers in line with the laws of the state.
It equally mandated all unlawfully established primary and secondary schools to harmonize their stands legally with the necessary authorities and the State House of Assembly with the next 12 calendar months while all individuals or corporate bodies illegally making use of Primary and Secondary school facilities should vacate within the next two months.
The educational actors equally charged all students to be awake to their studies, while actors at the various levels should beef up security around the school premises to checkmate vandalization.
