Nigerian Army has urged citizens of the country to embrace the spirit of peace and unity, noting that taking such a step would boost the development of the nation.
Commander of Nkwagu Military Cantonment Abakaliki, Lt Col Audu Bako made the call during the Nigerian Army Day Celebration, NADCEL for the year 2024.
Bako described the Nigerian Army Day Celebration as an annual event organized to celebrate the security agency's journey and achievements since its establishment 161 years ago.
Interacting with the students of Liberation Secondary School Igbeagu in Izzi LGA of Ebonyi State after the display of a video documentary on the history and activities of the Nigerian Army, Bako educated them on the career opportunities open to them by the agency.
He enumerated the benefits of the Nigerian Army including job security, access to quality health care, and financial stability among others.
In his presentation, Lieutenant Nyemoni Iketubosyn also stressed the need for the students to be patriotic by promoting unity and love.
He equally urged the students to avoid cultism, drug abuse, and tribal sentiment.
Reacting, the Principal and some students of Liberation Secondary School Igbeagueagu expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Taoreed Lagbaja and the Cantonment Commander Lt Col Audu Bako for the donation of educational materials and sensitization which opened their eyes to the workings of the Nigerian army.
The theme for 2024 NADCEL is Transforming the Nigerian Army Imperative for Combating Contemporary Security Challenges.
