Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South East have described the recent meeting held at the Enugu State Government House as illegitimate and a nullity.
The meeting, reportedly convened by the expelled former National Vice Chairman (South East) of the party, Chief Ali Odefa, was dismissed by the PDP South East leadership, who reaffirmed that Odefa lacks the authority to summon any zonal gathering.
Speaking in Abuja during a zonal stakeholders’ meeting, Chief Chidiebere Egwu, the newly recognized National Vice Chairman of the PDP in the South East, emphasized the group’s continued recognition of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the legitimate National Secretary of the party. The meeting was attended by key party figures including former Abia State Governor Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, Senator Michael Amah Nnachi, Senator Paulinus Igwe Nwagu, and other top zonal executives.
In a communiqué issued after the meeting, the stakeholders called on the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) to comply with a Supreme Court ruling affirming Anyanwu’s position as National Secretary. They urged the public and party members to disregard any actions or meetings associated with Odefa.
The stakeholders also called for the immediate conduct of party congresses in Ebonyi and Anambra States, citing the absence of valid State Working Committees in both states. They referenced multiple court judgments upholding Odefa’s suspension and expulsion, and demanded that the Zonal Working Committee commence contempt of court proceedings against him.
Finally, the group expressed support for the Senator Bukola Saraki-led reconciliation committee, urging all party members to cooperate with the initiative in the interest of unity and the party’s survival.
