The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement for the South East region, Mrs. Chioma Nweze, has officially announced the commencement of the Skill Up South East training and empowerment program — a strategic initiative aimed at building economic resilience and self-reliance across the region.
In a statement issued to newsmen in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital, Nweze disclosed that the program will engage participants from each of the 35 local government areas within the South-East region of Nigeria. The initiative, she noted, is being implemented under the visionary framework of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“The inaugural phase of the Skill Up South East initiative has officially commenced,” the statement read. “It features a cohort of 35 selected participants drawn from each of the 35 local government areas within the South-East region in Nigeria.”
She explained that the program kicks off with training in tailoring and fashion design, with additional vocational skills to be introduced in subsequent phases.
According to Nweze, the project is designed not only to equip participants with relevant, industry-driven skills but also to support their integration into the economic landscape. This, she said, will be achieved through structured post-training empowerment packages and sustainable business support systems aimed at long-term growth and job creation.
The Skill Up South East initiative marks a significant milestone in the federal government’s grassroots engagement and human capital development efforts, particularly in the South-East, where youth unemployment and underemployment remain critical challenges.
