Chief Olabode George, a former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has called on President Bola Tinubu to reinstate suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara as a gesture of national reconciliation in the spirit of June 12 Democracy Day.
In an open letter dated June 11, 2025, George appealed to Tinubu to uphold the democratic values symbolized by the annulled June 12, 1993, presidential election and the sacrifices of pro-democracy advocates.
George, who traced his political lineage to Herbert Macaulay, Nigeria’s first party founder, urged Tinubu to show magnanimity by extending the same forgiveness reportedly shown to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to Governor Fubara.
He emphasized that reinstating Fubara would honor the legacy of late Chief MKO Abiola and reaffirm Tinubu’s democratic credentials as a former NADECO member who fought against military rule.
Governor Fubara was suspended amid a protracted political crisis in Rivers State, though details of the federal government’s involvement have remained unclear.
