The Conference of Professionals in the Peoples Democratic Party (CP-PDP) has declared that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, is no longer recognized as a member of the PDP, citing his repeated violations of the party’s constitution and public alignment with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a strongly worded press release issued on Tuesday, the CP-PDP pointed to Section 10(6) of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017), which prohibits members from aligning with rival parties or groups in a manner that undermines the PDP. The group stated that Wike’s open declaration to support the APC in the 2026 FCT Council and 2027 Presidential elections constitutes automatic forfeiture of his PDP membership.
"The self-executory import of Section 10 (6) is that by publicly aligning with the APC, the FCT Minister has effectively terminated his membership of the PDP," the statement signed by Protem National Coordinator Barr. Obinna Nwachukwu read in part.
The CP-PDP criticized Wike’s persistent media attacks on PDP leaders and accused him of overheating the political climate with divisive rhetoric. In response, the group said it would write to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to explore ways of curbing what it described as "disturbing" media conduct by the Minister.
"No one has the monopoly of media outbursts," the group cautioned, adding that professional journalists within the CP-PDP would work with their colleagues to counter what it sees as media abuse by public officials.
The CP-PDP also issued a public challenge to Wike to hold a live, unscripted media hearing to address what it described as “serious allegations” concerning his administration of the FCT. These include alleged mismanagement of public funds, land racketeering, arbitrary revocations and demolitions, as well as burdensome taxes and levies imposed on residents and businesses.
Calling on Wike to fully commit to the APC and “leave the PDP alone,” the group emphasized that his actions reflect a total repudiation of the PDP’s values and disciplinary code.
The statement concludes with a firm position: “Chief Wike is not a member of the PDP—by his own conduct and declarations.”
