Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has donated N20 million to victims of the devastating flood in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger state.
Obi presented the donation in Minna, the state capital, on Monday during a visit to sympathise with the state government and the affected communities.
He was received by the deputy governor of Niger, Yakubu Garba, who represented Governor Umar Bago.
The flood, which ravaged three communities in Mokwa LGA, has claimed at least 200 lives, while about 500 people remain missing.
Properties worth millions of naira have also been destroyed in the disaster.
Expressing his condolences, Obi prayed for the repose of the victims’ souls and urged God to grant their families the fortitude to bear the losses.
He further pledged to personally visit Mokwa at a later date to offer direct support to the victims.
Deputy Governor Garba, on behalf of the government and people of Niger, thanked Obi for his gesture, described it as a demonstration of compassion and solidarity.
