The Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) and the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) have declared their joint support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s security model, which seeks to empower states and communities to address persistent security challenges across Nigeria.
The resolution followed a high-level meeting held by the two forums after the President’s recent visit to Benue State.
During the deliberations, the governors reviewed the country’s security architecture and agreed on the urgent need to adopt a state-based security system to complement federal government efforts.
The Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, who spoke on behalf of the forums, said the new strategy aligns with longstanding calls for decentralised security operations and enhanced grassroots engagement.
“In Imo State, we have proactively embraced this model, deploying it across our communities. This has resulted in measurable progress in confronting security threats, improving response capacity, and restoring public confidence,” Uzodimma stated.
He added that the approach is being continually strengthened through intelligence gathering, community engagement, and adherence to lawful enforcement protocols.
As the nation awaits further measures from the Presidency to reinforce national security, the governors reaffirmed their readiness to protect lives and property within the framework of the law.
“Our resolve is unwavering, and our duty to the people remains our highest calling,” Governor Uzodimma concluded.
