The Senate has called on the newly inaugurated Managing Directors of the River Basin Development Authorities (RBDAs) to urgently address the water needs of Nigerians in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Water Resources and Sanitation, Senator Engr. Kenneth Emeka Eze gave the charge on Thursday while receiving the new heads of the RBDAs during a courtesy visit to his office at the National Assembly Complex.
Senator Eze, representing Ebonyi Central Senatorial District in National Assembly emphasized that the Senate, through his committee, had championed increased budgetary allocations to the RBDAs to ensure the provision of clean and accessible drinking water for all Nigerians.
This was contained in a press release issued and made to journalists by Senator Eze's Senior Legislative Aide, Kizito Nwankwo on Friday.
According to the release, the Senator however, warned that the 10th Senate will not tolerate poor performance from any federal agency.
“We will not accept excuses from any agency. The funds made available must translate to visible results that meet the needs of the people,” he said.
He assured the MDs of the National Assembly’s continued support and collaboration in delivering on their mandate, wishing them a successful tenure.
Earlier, the Managing Directors’ Forum thanked Senator Eze for the warm reception and pledged the agencies’ commitment to improving access to water nationwide. He also lauded the Senator’s efforts in securing improved funding for their operations and promised closer cooperation with the legislature.
The River Basin Development Authorities are federal institutions tasked with developing water resources for irrigation, domestic use, and other agricultural purposes across the country.
