The South-South Emerging Leaders’ Forum (SELF) has raised alarm over what it described as a secret plan by former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, to abandon the African Democratic Congress (ADC)-led coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Thursday, July 17, 2025, in Abuja and signed by its National Coordinator, Comrade Benjamin Kolowei, the group alleged that Obi had already secured a new political platform and was merely using the ADC coalition as a temporary vehicle.
According to SELF, credible intelligence indicates that the former Anambra State governor is not genuinely committed to the coalition’s ideals and is instead prioritizing his personal political ambitions.
“Peter Obi is already putting finishing touches to his new political base while misleading ADC leaders and Nigerians into thinking he is building a coalition,” the statement claimed.
The group warned ADC stakeholders not to be deceived by what it described as Obi’s tactical maneuvering, insisting that his body language and political activities suggest he has no real interest in fostering a united opposition front.
SELF further urged opposition leaders to demand transparency and sincerity from all coalition partners to avoid another disappointing outing in 2027.
