The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has announced that the National Assembly will soon hold a valedictory session in honour of the late President Muhammadu Buhari.
Represented by the Senate Deputy Chief Whip, Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi, Akpabio made this known on Sunday, July 21, 2025, at a Special Church Service organized by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Abuja, in memory of the former Nigerian leader.
Senator Akpabio described Buhari as a man whose legacy of honesty and integrity remains indelible in Nigeria’s history. “Regardless of political opinions, no one can take away the fact that President Buhari served with integrity and uncommon discipline,” he said.
Senator Nwebonyi, speaking on behalf of the Senate President, commended CAN for organizing the church service, noting that it reflected Nigeria’s unity under one God and the nation's collective respect for a former leader.
He also called on the Christian community to continue praying for the peaceful repose of the late president, whom he described as a patriot who gave his all for Nigeria.
The solemn event was attended by high-profile dignitaries including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume; former SGF Boss Mustapha; Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi; CAN leaders, and other prominent Nigerians.
The gathering served not only as a spiritual tribute but also as a moment of national reflection on the life and service of a man many regarded as a symbol of incorruptibility.
