The Ebonyi Prestigious Club (EPC) has strongly condemned the brutal killing of over 11 Ebonyi indigenes in Ogboji community, Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State, describing the act as barbaric, senseless, and a violation of fundamental human rights.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday and signed by its Publicity Secretary, Edward Nnachi, the EPC expressed deep grief over the incident, which occurred on Monday, June 30, when peaceful and defenseless citizens were allegedly massacred during a lawful town union meeting.
The group said the heinous attack represents a "direct affront to their fundamental human rights and an assault on the collective conscience of our nation."
It decried the growing insecurity across the country and emphasized that the state must not fail in guaranteeing the sanctity of human life.
“The barbaric killing of these harmless individuals is a grievous violation of sacred rights and an intolerable affront to the principles of justice, unity, and peaceful co-existence,” the statement read in part.
The EPC called on the Anambra State Government and security agencies to immediately commence a thorough, transparent, and independent investigation, insisting that the perpetrators must be identified and prosecuted regardless of their status or affiliations.
They further demanded that the outcome of such investigations must not be hidden, stressing that justice must be both done and seen to be done to restore public confidence in the state's ability to protect all citizens equally.
The club extended condolences to the bereaved families, the government, and the people of Ebonyi State, urging affected families to remain calm and allow trusted security authorities to handle the matter.
“We insist that this tragic incident must not be swept under the carpet,” EPC concluded.
