In a major political shift, former Minister of Police Affairs and two-time PDP governorship candidate in Yobe State, Adamu Maina Waziri, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and declared for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Waziri, who was also a member of the PDP Board of Trustees, announced his defection in a letter submitted to the Ward Chairman of Dogotubo Ward in Potiskum Local Government Area on Monday, July 7, 2025.
In his resignation letter, Waziri cited his disenchantment with the current leadership and direction of the PDP, which he described as “inconsistent with the ideals of a major political party.” He lamented that the PDP had lost its moral standing to serve as Nigeria’s principal opposition platform.
“I am motivated by a renewed desire to help rescue Nigeria’s democracy and contribute meaningfully to a coalition that can rebuild governance and offer Nigerians a new lease of hope,” Waziri said.
The former minister pledged loyalty to the ADC and promised to mobilize his political base to support the party’s mission to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next general election.
Waziri’s defection is seen as a significant boost to ADC’s growing coalition and an indicator of intensifying political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
