Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to creating a conducive working environment for the Nigerian Automobile Technicians Association (NATA) in the state.
Speaking through his Chief of Staff, Prof. Emmanuel Echiegu, during the association’s 50th anniversary celebration in Abakaliki, Governor Nwifuru acknowledged the vital role played by the automotive sector in the socio-economic development of the state.
He described the Abakaliki Mechanic Site as a hub of economic empowerment with the potential to curb youth restiveness by engaging them productively.
“Beyond the Rice Mill Industry, the Abakaliki Mechanic Village holds immense value for youth empowerment and skills development in our state,” the Governor stated, assuring the association that their requests have been noted and will be addressed in order of priority.
Earlier in his address, the State Chairman of NATA, Comrade Fidelis Ukwa, recounted the history of the association and outlined his administration’s achievements.
These included the long-awaited drafting of a durable, inclusive constitution after a 23-year delay, environmental cleanup of the mechanic village, creation of drainage systems, installation of culverts and internal road lateriting, structural improvements to the Unity Hall, and collaboration with the police to recover over five stolen vehicles.
Ukwa also appealed to the state government for urgent intervention in rehabilitating roads within the mechanic village, installation of solar streetlights, establishment of a healthcare center, and provision of empowerment programs. He further called for free training of artisans across the 13 LGAs, creation of polling units within the mechanic site, and completion of the Unity Hall project.
Delivering a homily at the thanksgiving service, the spiritual father of the association, Rev. Fr. Abraham Nwali, urged members to remain ethical, disciplined, and upright in their profession.
He emphasized the vital importance of craftsmanship and technological skill in driving societal development.
A major highlight of the event was the inauguration of the “F.O.N. Movement,” a political support group expected to promote the continuity of Governor Nwifuru’s people-oriented policies and programs across Ebonyi State.
