In a major health-focused initiative, medical professionals under the aegis of the Conference of Afikpo Medical & Dental Doctors (CAMD) have pledged to offer free healthcare services to the people of Afikpo Local Government Area and Ebonyi State at large.
This commitment was reaffirmed during a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of Afikpo LGA, Chief Timothy Nwachi, as the group sought strategic collaboration with the council to expand their reach and impact.
CAMD boasts a formidable team of over one hundred medical and dental doctors, including four professors, more than sixty consultants across various fields of medicine and surgery, seasoned medical elders, and young doctors in postgraduate training, both within Nigeria and abroad.
Chairman of CAMD, Prof. Henry C. Uro-Chukwu, noted that the association has consistently organized free medical outreaches and provided critical interventions during public health emergencies.
He emphasized the need for lifestyle adjustments, highlighting that many non-communicable diseases stem from unhealthy habits.
He applauded Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, Deputy Governor, and Chief Nwachi for the ongoing infrastructural renaissance in Afikpo, and equally appreciated the Hon. Minister of Works, Sen. Engr. David Umahi, for attracting major federal road and bridge projects in the area.
Prof. Uro-Chukwu pledged the association’s readiness to contribute to grassroots development, calling on the council to ease the financial strain related to medical consumables and equipment procurement, since CAMD members are committed to offering their professional services free of charge.
Responding, Chief Timothy Nwachi expressed delight over the CAMD initiative and declared his full support for a long-term partnership. He promised to rally Development Centre Coordinators to synergize with CAMD under the Charter of Needs agenda of Governor Nwifuru and the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope programme.
He encouraged all CAMD members to intensify their efforts, stressing, “Afikpo remains our common heritage; let us give more than ever before to uplift it.”
The visit marks a significant step in community-based healthcare and showcases how homegrown medical experts are mobilizing to improve lives at the grassroots.
