The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared unwavering support for Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election bid in 2026 and endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in 2027.
This resolution followed a high-level caucus meeting held at the Government House, Osogbo, where PDP leaders across the state reviewed recent political developments, especially speculations surrounding Governor Adeleke’s rumoured defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the party dismissed the defection narrative, stating that the idea never originated from Governor Adeleke and has been met with strong opposition from both APC and PDP members in the state.
“The majority of PDP members are loyal to Governor Adeleke, but they do not support the idea of leaving the PDP,” the statement noted. “The governor remains deeply rooted in the party, and his administration enjoys broad public support.”
The party also acknowledged President Tinubu as a son of Osun State and formally adopted him for re-election in 2027, citing respect for his ancestral connection to the state.
Key resolutions from the meeting include:
Reaffirmation of Adeleke’s candidacy for the 2026 governorship election under the PDP;
Adoption of President Tinubu for the 2027 presidential race;
A directive for PDP members to remain united and committed to the party;
A call for continued implementation of Adeleke’s Five Point Agenda.
The communiqué was signed by Governor Adeleke and prominent PDP stakeholders including former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Senator Lere Oyewumi, Hon. Bamidele Salam, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, and others.
The meeting underscored the PDP’s dominance and strategic direction ahead of the next electoral cycle in Osun State.
