Councilors in Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State have thrown their weight behind Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru’s re-election bid in 2027, citing his sweeping reforms, infrastructural drive, and people-centered policies as reasons for their early adoption of his candidacy.
The endorsement came on Tuesday at Ezillo, headquarters of Ishielu LGA, following a motion moved by Hon. Onyebuchi Nweke, Councilor representing Ezzagu Ward 2.
Explaining his decision, Nweke said the governor’s track record of achievements in less than two years in office speaks volumes.
“We saw the numerous projects embarked on by the governor, especially the mega double-deck VANCO flyover junction where billions of naira are being invested. I also mentioned the Ezillo–Ezeagu road project that is now opening up my community, the completed bungalows for Royal Fathers across the state, youth empowerment, scholarships, and human capital development. These informed my motion for his adoption for a second term,” he said.
Seconding the motion, Hon. Nweze Benjamin Ndubuisi, Chief Whip of the Ishielu Legislative Council, said his community had directly benefited from the governor’s projects.
“The governor is a good man and my community is one of the beneficiaries of his numerous projects. That is why I seconded the motion,” he said.
Also lending support, the leader of the Ishielu legislative council, Hon. Martins Okozie Ega, who represents Nkalaha Ward, stressed that Nwifuru’s administration has distinguished itself through a combination of human and infrastructural development.
“We endorsed the governor because of his love and passion for developing human beings and infrastructure. Our people are seeing the dividends of democracy.
"He has increased the salaries of grassroots legislators, organized agricultural training and empowerment programs, and shown himself to be youth-friendly and people-centered. We in Ishielu are on the same page, 100 per cent,” Ega declared.
The councilors further expressed appreciation to Governor Nwifuru for entrusting the leadership of Ishielu LGA to Mrs. Ifeoma Peace Agwu, describing her as a gift to the people of the area.
Our correspondent reports that the unanimous adoption adds to the growing voices of support for Governor Nwifuru across the state, with the lawmakers insisting that continuity in office beyond 2027 would consolidate his reforms in infrastructure, agriculture, education, and grassroots governance.
