The newly established University of ICT, Science and Technology, Oferekpe, in Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, has secured approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to run 20 academic programmes across various disciplines.
Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Ernest Egba, announced the development, describing it as a milestone in the university’s quest to provide world-class education in ICT, science, engineering, and management studies.
The approved courses include: B.Sc. Computer Science, B.Sc. Data Sciences, B.Sc. Software Engineering, B.Sc. Cyber Security, B.Sc. Information and Communication Technology, B.Sc. Information System, B.Sc. Information Technology, B.Sc. Human Nutrition and Dietetics, and B.Sc. Health Information Management. Others are B.Eng. Civil Engineering, B.Eng. Computer Engineering, B.Eng. Electrical and Electronic Engineering, B.Sc. Mass Communication, B.Sc. Accounting, B.Sc. Economics, B.Sc. Entrepreneurship, B.Sc. Architecture, B.Sc. Building, B.Sc. Surveying and Geoinformatics, and B.Sc. Quantity Surveying.
Prof. Egba noted that the university had worked tirelessly to meet the requirements for approval by ensuring that qualified academic staff and standard teaching facilities were in place.
“We appreciate the governor’s unwavering support, especially his investment in quality staff, adequate teaching and learning facilities, and modern structures. This has been instrumental in getting NUC’s endorsement,” the Vice Chancellor said.
He revealed that the university already boasts a team of highly trained lecturers, both within Nigeria and from abroad, whose knowledge and experience would help prepare students for global competitiveness.
Reaffirming the institution’s vision, Prof. Egba stressed that the university was established to bridge the digital knowledge gap and contribute to technological advancement in Nigeria and beyond.
“Our mandate is to provide students with access to top-tier education in ICT, science, and technology. We want to produce innovators who can not only compete in the global digital space but also offer homegrown solutions to the challenges facing society,” he added.
The approval of the 20 courses signals the readiness of the Ebonyi ICT University to commence full academic activities and strengthens the state government’s drive to position Ebonyi as a hub for digital education and technological innovation in Nigeria.
